The Issue

Recently, NeeDoh's were banned at West Middle School due to some students deliberately popping them. While I understand the administration's concern, this decision impacts all the students, including those like myself who have been using NeeDoh's responsibly. These colorful squishy toys have been more than just a fun distraction for me—they are an essential tool in managing my focus in class.

Consider students with ADHD or anxiety disorders, for whom NeeDoh’s can be particularly beneficial. Numerous studies suggest that stress-relief toys can aid in concentration, reduce anxiety, and improve classroom performance. For students like me, they serve as vital anchors in an often overwhelming academic environment. Rather than penalizing everyone, a fair approach might be to address individual misuse, taking away the privilege from those causing disturbances, while allowing others to retain this beneficial tool.

A blanket ban does not account for the needs of students who genuinely require these tools for their cognitive and emotional well-being. Instead, school policies could focus on educating students about responsible use, monitoring the deployment of NeeDoh's during class times, and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone's needs are respected. By doing so, we wouldn’t just bring back a small squishy toy; we would reinforce a compassionate and understanding community that meets students’ diverse needs.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Support this petition to encourage West Middle School to revisit their decision on NeeDoh's and implement a policy that targets misuse without eliminating the benefits for all students. Sign this petition to bring back NeeDoh's and promote a balanced approach!
