Reinstate MMA Fighting in Kent School District

The Issue

Growing up in Kent, WA, MMA fighting wasn't just a sport for me; it was a passion and a driving force that taught me discipline, resilience, and self-confidence. However, following recent policy changes, this incredible opportunity has been snatched away from aspiring athletes in our school district. I am an MMA fighter and having this sport as part of our school's extracurricular activities not only shaped my character but also kept many of us engaged and on track.

MMA builds physical strength, strategic thinking, and, most importantly, instills respect for oneself and others. It provides students with a unique form of expression and an outlet in a supportive and structured environment. Since its removal, we've seen a decline in student engagement in physical education and a missed opportunity for countless students to benefit from its positive impacts.

Across the nation, schools embracing MMA see enhanced student performance, both academically and in physical health. According to the CDC, students involved in sports are 15% more likely to perform better academically and have a 25% reduced risk of chronic diseases. Reintroducing MMA will cater to diverse interests and encourage a greater number of students to engage in healthy, active lifestyles.

Kent School District prides itself on providing excellent opportunities for its students. By reinstating MMA fighting as a school sport, the district will not only be reconnecting with a tradition of athletic excellence but also supporting students in their athletic and personal development. We urge the district to consider the benefits and take action for current and future students.

Please sign this petition to bring back MMA fighting in the Kent School District, ensuring that our students can continue to thrive through this incredible sport.
