Martin Akowuah, a dedicated employee of the National Identification Authority (NIA), was dismissed from his position due to an act of service towards his community. He and his team began processing Ghana Cards for constituents in the Madina area before 8am in order to alleviate long queues and backlogs. This act, though outside official working hours, demonstrated a commitment to public service that should be celebrated rather than punished especially when this was done for no Personal or material gain but sheer enthusiasm towards work. Even though there is no evidence that Martin benefited financially or materially from this act, as contained in the report of the Disciplinary Committee, the committee strangely recommended his dismissal summarily.

According to data from the NIA, there are often long queues for obtaining Ghana Cards which can cause significant inconvenience for citizens (NIA Annual Report). Reinstating Mr. Akowuah would send a strong message about valuing employees who go above and beyond their duties in serving their communities.
