I am a regular passenger on the Lakeshore East GO train route, a line that has been a reliable service for hardworking residents of Durham like myself for years. Following the drastic changes brought on by the global pandemic, the loss of express service during rush hours resulted in lengthened commute times, disrupted routines, and precious time stolen from our families and personal lives.

Several of us depended on these express trains to get to work on time, maintain a semblance of work-life balance, and manage the strains of urban living. When meetings ran late and children had school events, the Lakeshore East express trains were our lifeline.

Every day, a growing number of Durham residents are experiencing the effects of longer commute times due to the decrease in express train services. This change has resulted in added inconvenience for a populace still grappling with the ongoing effects of the pandemic.
