Reinstate hall decorating for spirit week

The Issue

As a senior at Windsor High School in Connecticut, I have been looking forward to celebrating Spirit Week in the way that many classes before me have enjoyed, by decorating hallways. Hall decorating, with its vibrant colors and themes, brings our school community together and boosts school spirit immensely. Door decorating, while nice, does not have the same powerful impact. It's my final year here, and along with my fellow students, we would love to go out on a high note, participating in a tradition that fosters unity and excitement.

Spirit Week is a crucial time for us students to express our creativity and love for our school community. The experience of transforming hallways has always been an integral part of this tradition, creating an opportunity for us to work together and showcase our artistic talents. Hallway decorating turns our school into a canvas of artistic expression that excites students during the week and fosters a sense of pride in our school environment. This week-long celebration is meant to be memorable, and a simple door decoration does not encapsulate the same mighty roar of school spirit.

We understand concerns may have caused this change, but we believe solutions can be found that address these concerns while still allowing us to decorate the halls. Perhaps we can have guidance from staff or set parameters to ensure everything is done safely and respectfully.

On behalf of the student body, I urge Windsor High School to bring back hallway decorating for future Spirit Weeks, giving us seniors and the generations to come the experience we have seen grow and thrive in our school for so many years. Let's keep the time-honored tradition alive and allow us, the students, to leave our mark in a way that truly represents our collective spirit.
