Petition to: Ontario Premier Doug Ford

Why this petition is important (Persian version below - پارسی در پایین):

Ontario Premier Doug Ford unjustly removed Goldie Ghamari, an Iranian-Canadian MPP, from his Progressive Conservative Party Caucus in Ontario, shortly after she shared a post on X about a video call with Tommy Robinson. Freedom of association is one of the basic rights protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (section 2d), and we expect that politicians should have the right to meet with individuals to exchange ideas and perspectives without being undemocratically removed from a caucus. 

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) publicized their meeting on X, and accused her of being Islamophobic because she met with him. As an Iranian-Canadian MPP,  Ghamari has worked tirelessly to educate the public on matters related to Iran and how they may affect Canada. She has been a beacon of hope for many Iranian-Canadians who have felt like their voices are drowned out. Not only has Ghamari worked diligently in her post as an MPP, her work for Canada’s national security has also been recognized: On June 19th, Canada listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a recognized terrorist organization.

The office of the premier listed her reasons for removal as being "serious lapses of judgment and a failure to collaborate constructively with caucus leadership and as a team member." This statement grossly overlooks her tireless efforts to bring to light the threat of the IRGC on Canada's national security. Regardless of this effort, if it should normally be true that politicians have "serious lapses of judgment" when they meet with various individuals of different backgrounds, diplomacy would be dead.  

Maybe their statement would have been more accurate if it read "we received many emails from NCCM members that said we should kick her out of our party and decided to listen to them instead of the people who voted for her on the Conservative ballot."

This begs the question: when did the Ontario Progressive Conservative caucus stop being a real Conservative caucus and start paying more attention to organizations like the NCCM? What happened to the preferences of the people who voted for her? 

We would like to highlight the danger of letting any religious group bully a representative for invalid reasons and through this effectively exert political power even though they hold no political authority. The Iranian diaspora in Canada has concerns about the influence of associations like the NCCM on policy makers, and misinformation about the reality of life in Islamic countries. The results of misinformation campaigns by religious organizations has also had a large societal impact seen clearly in recent months as pro-LGBT people advocated for Hamas.

These days, more than ever before, we need politicians who stand for truth, talk about the real dangers present around us, and are open-minded and willing to communicate with a broad variety of people. We demand for Goldie Ghamari to be reinstated in the PC caucus as we, the people of Canada, believe she did not violate any of our foundational rights. She did not do anything that constitutes a hate crime or anything that should cause her to be isolated from her own party.

We the people of Canada also therefore demand a more specific and comprehensive explanation regarding why our elected MPP was removed from her position in the caucus.

داگ فورد، نخست وزیر انتاریو، گلدی قمری، نماینده ایرانی-کانادایی پارلمان استانی را ناعادلانه از گروه پارلمانی حزب محافظه‌کار پیشرو در انتاریو برکنار کرد، کمی بعد از اینکه او پستی درباره یک تماس تصویری با تامی رابینسون در شبکه‌های اجتماعی منتشر کرد. آزادی ارتباط یکی از حقوق اساسی است که توسط منشور حقوق و آزادی‌های کانادا (بخش ۲د) حفاظت می‌شود و ما انتظار داریم که سیاستمداران حق داشته باشند با افراد مختلف دیدار و تبادل نظر کنند بدون اینکه به طور غیر دموکراتیک از گروه پارلمانی برکنار شوند.

شورای ملی مسلمانان کانادا (NCCM) این ملاقات را در شبکه اجتماعی منتشر کرد و او را به اسلام‌هراسی متهم کرد چون با او ملاقات کرده بود. قمری به عنوان یک نماینده ایرانی-کانادایی در پارلمان، خستگی ناپذیر کار کرده تا عموم را در مورد مسائل مربوط به ایران و تأثیرات آن بر کانادا آگاه کند. او برای بسیاری از ایرانی-کانادایی‌هایی که احساس می‌کنند صدایشان نادیده گرفته می‌شود، منبع امید بوده است. قمری نه تنها با جدیت در نقش خود به عنوان نماینده پارلمان اجرا کرده، بلکه کار او برای امنیت ملی کانادا نیز شناخته شده است: در ۱۹ ژوئن، کانادا سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی (IRGC) را به عنوان یک سازمان تروریستی فهرست کرد.

دفتر نخست وزیر دلایل برکناری او را "خطاهای جدی در قضاوت و ناتوانی در همکاری سازنده با رهبری گروه پارلمانی و به عنوان یک عضو تیم" عنوان کرد. این بیانیه به شدت تلاش‌های خستگی‌ناپذیر او برای روشن کردن تهدید سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی بر امنیت ملی کانادا را نادیده می‌گیرد. با وجود این تلاش، اگر این موضوع درست باشد که سیاستمداران در هنگام ملاقات با افراد مختلف از زمینه‌های مختلف "خطاهای جدی در قضاوت" دارند، دیپلماسی مرده خواهد بود. شاید بیانیه آنها دقیق‌تر بود اگر می‌گفتند: "ما ایمیل‌های زیادی از اعضای NCCM دریافت کردیم که گفتند باید او را از حزب خود اخراج کنیم و تصمیم گرفتیم به آنها گوش دهیم به جای افرادی که به او رأی دادند."

این سوال مطرح می‌شود: چه زمانی گروه پارلمانی محافظه‌کار پیشرو انتاریو از یک گروه محافظه‌کار واقعی بودن دست کشید و به سازمان‌هایی مانند NCCM بیشتر توجه کرد؟ چه اتفاقی برای ترجیحات افرادی که به او رأی دادند افتاد؟

ما می‌خواهیم خطر اجازه دادن به هر گروه مذهبی برای زورگویی به یک نماینده به دلایل نامعتبر و از این طریق اعمال قدرت سیاسی بدون داشتن صلاحیت سیاسی را برجسته کنیم. جامعه ایرانی در کانادا نگرانی‌هایی درباره تأثیر انجمن‌هایی مانند NCCM بر سیاست‌گذاران و اطلاعات نادرست درباره واقعیت زندگی در کشورهای اسلامی دارد. نتایج کمپین‌های اطلاعات نادرست توسط سازمان‌های مذهبی نیز تأثیر اجتماعی زیادی داشته که در ماه‌های اخیر به وضوح دیده شده است به طوری که افراد حامی LGBT برای حماس تبلیغ کرده‌اند.

این روزها، بیش از هر زمان دیگری، ما نیاز به سیاستمدارانی داریم که برای حقیقت ایستادگی کنند، درباره خطرات واقعی اطراف ما صحبت کنند و ذهن باز و آمادگی ارتباط با طیف گسترده‌ای از افراد داشته باشند. ما خواهان بازگشت گلدی قمری به گروه پارلمانی محافظه‌کار پیشرو هستیم زیرا ما، مردم کانادا، معتقدیم که او هیچ یک از حقوق بنیادین ما را نقض نکرده است. او هیچ کار نفرت‌آمیزی انجام نداده است یا هیچ چیز که باعث شود او از حزب خودش جدا شود. ما مردم کانادا همچنین خواهان توضیح دقیق‌تر و جامع‌تری درباره علت برکناری نماینده انتخابی ما از موقعیت او در گروه پارلمانی هستیم.
