I am a dedicated student at Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, CA, and I am reaching out to our community and the Fremont Unified School District to address a vital issue – our need for a football team. Currently, Mission San Jose is the only high school in FUSD without a team. As students, we are missing out on the camaraderie, school spirit, and quintessential high school experience that football brings.

Throughout our district, schools like Irvington, Washington, American, and Kennedy light up the community with Friday night football games. They have homecoming matches that unite students, alumni, and families, fostering a deep sense of belonging and pride. Yet, at MSJ, we watch from the sidelines, unable to participate in this tradition that so many cherish.

There is significant student interest in establishing a football team at Mission San Jose. Several students express a strong desire to play for their school, rather than transferring to another school. Moreover, a football program could encourage students to actively engage in school activities, improve physical health, and bolster team-building and leadership skills.

The lack of a football team at MSJ also means missing out on potential scholarships and athletic opportunities that are readily available to students in schools with established football programs. Moreover, a football team draws in more community support, enhances school spirit, and could potentially increase attendance at other school events, benefiting our student body as a whole.

Reinstating a football program requires the support of the school administration and the district, but with clear interest from students and support from our community, this dream can become a reality. We need to address concerns such as funding, coaching, and facilities to ensure a sustainable and successful program. Many alumni and local businesses might be willing to sponsor and support the formation of a football team.

I urge the Fremont Unified School District, along with our school administration, to recognize the importance of football in the holistic development of students. Let us work together to bring back football to Mission San Jose High School, giving current and future students the opportunity to experience the joys and lessons that come with being part of a team.
