Reinstate EU pet passports

Reinstate EU pet passports
The Issue
In 2025, a controversial and deeply impacting decision was made. On 19th May, Sir Keir Starmer, under a deal with the European Union, agreed to trade away the UK's fishing rights for a period of 12 years. In return, there were promises of EU concessions, notably the re-introduction of EU pet passports. Sadly, this promise has been neglected, leaving many pet owners in distress.
I am just one among many who have felt the sting of this broken promise. The new rules around taking pets to Europe have become a labyrinth of red tape, and the costs involved are exorbitant. Travelling with pets to Europe should be as seamless as it once was, but instead, we are mired in complex paperwork and unexpected fees. The stress and financial burden it places on us, as pet owners, are not justifiable. All we ask is for a simple, logical system that was once promised to us – the EU pet passports.
The importance of the pet passport system cannot be overstated. It streamlined the process, reduced costs, and ensured the safety and welfare of our pets while travelling across borders. The absence of this system has not only brought inconvenience and financial strain but has also compromised the health and safety of our pets due to the inconsistent and unclear travel guidelines.
Restoring the EU pet passport system is not just about ease and convenience; it's about keeping a promise. It’s about ensuring that pet owners can travel without being financially penalised.
We demand that the UK government revisits this issue and takes action to reimplement the EU pet passport system. It’s a promise that was made and needs to be honoured.
Join me in urging the authorities to work towards reinstating this crucial agreement. Let's hold them accountable for the promises made. Sign this petition to bring back EU pet passports.
