My name is Igor Morozov, This story began with a heartwarming gesture from an employee to their mother at Lowe's. Unbeknownst to me, this act of kindness led to my dismissal from my position. I had been a dedicated and committed Lowe's employee who enjoyed serving customers and contributing to the vibrant working environment. I provided my mom with a $40 discount using my employee perks, a one-time occurrence due to exceptional circumstances. I was subsequently dismissed for this act. This harsh punishment has left me unemployed and has shaken my belief in the editorial discretion of Lowe's management.
Every company has the right to enforce its policies, but it's essential to do it fairly. I take serious issue with the punitive nature of the penalty due to transparency and lack thereof discipline via a graded system. No previous warnings or discussion about the appropriateness of my actions was undertaken.
According to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), more than 50% of organizations in the U.S allow the use of staff discounts for family members (2017 HR Benefits Research). This furthers the argument that my dismissal was potentially heavy-handed and improper. Therefore, I urge Lowe's to reconsider their decision, rectify this situation, and reinstate my employment with them. This resolution would repair my public image, restore faith in fairness of Lowe's disciplinary measures, and highlights Lowe's' commitment to its employees.
