On December 21st, we received notice that Dr. Tonya Hansel was suddenly removed from her position with Tulane University as the Director of the Doctor of Social Work program. This change in leadership has been a shock to many who are connected to and value the Tulane University School of Social Work. Dr. Tonya Hansel is the epitome of social work leadership and academia. She has pioneered innovative education in the DSW program, created new programs, and led the accreditation process for the Doctor of Social Work program, creating a program which is arguably the best in the nation. Her leadership has been invaluable to countless social work students and professionals, forever impacting the field of social work for the better.

As the Doctor of Social Work program seeks accreditation, it is imperative that Dr. Tonya Hansel remain in a leadership role, as she has spearheaded this campaign to this point. Many DSW students and alumni have been assured that this degree in which they have invested tens of thousands of dollars would be accredited in the future. Without her leadership, it is a concern to many members of the Tulane DSW family that this effort will falter.

It is our hope and sincere encouragement that Dr. Hansel be reinstated into the position of Director of the Doctor of Social Work program at Tulane University. Many past, current, and future students have a vested interest in her continued leadership at the School of Social Work.
