Reinstate Dog Licensing to Fight Illegal Breeding and Unprepared Ownership

Reinstate Dog Licensing to Fight Illegal Breeding and Unprepared Ownership
The Issue
My experiences and observations in my community compelled me to start this petition. Reinstating dog licensing is not only a matter close to my heart, but one that bears considerable importance for the welfare of dogs and the betterment of our society. I strongly believe that the reintroduction of dog licensing can serve as a deterrent for illegal dog breeding and ill-considered purchases.
Illegal dog breeding operates in the shadows, contributing to the overpopulation problem and, worse, abusing animals in the process. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) estimates that over 1.8 million puppies are born annually to unplanned litters . These puppies often find themselves in shelters or, even worse, abandoned. Through dog licensing, authorities can monitor dog numbers more closely and curb the unregulated activity of irresponsible breeders.
Moreover, an essential part of dog ownership is understanding the responsibility that comes with having a pet. Buyers often rush into adopting a dog without considering the lifelong commitment needed. Instituting licensing can force potential owners to rethink their decision and better prepare for the responsibility, thereby reducing the number of poorly cared-for dogs or those placed in shelters.
Together, we can hit two birds with one stone. By supporting the reinstatement of dog licenses, you strengthen the fight against illegal dog breeding and ensure the welfare of dogs with prepared owners. Let's work together to create a better environment for our canine friends. Please sign this petition today.
