Reinstate Dog Licensing

The Issue

As a long-time owner of large breed dogs, I have witnessed firsthand the unfair targeting of specific breeds for banning. This is not only unjust but also ineffective in addressing the root cause of the problem. The responsibility should lie with dog owners, not with the breeds themselves.

We propose to bring back dog licensing as a means to ensure responsible ownership. This would require owners to be accountable for their pets' actions rather than singling out certain breeds for prohibition. The license would need to be renewed every twelve months like insurance and if there is a change in ownership then it would need to be signed by both the old and new owner of the dog. Alongside this, we suggest that any change in ownership should be reported immediately to microchip companies again by both seller and buyer, ensuring up-to-date registration and contact details.

Furthermore, we advocate for a register of licensed breeders and stipulate that puppies sold must be neutered or spayed once they reach maturity. This will help control overpopulation and ensure ethical breeding practices.

According to online data, neutering / spaying has numerous health benefits including prevention of certain types of cancers, yet statistically in the UK approximately only 54% of dogs are spayed or neutered. It's time we increase this percentage by making it mandatory.

This petition is more than just about fairness; it's about promoting responsible pet ownership and safeguarding our beloved pets from misguided regulations. Sign this petition today if you believe in holding owners accountable instead of unfairly blaming one particular breed.
