Reinstate Divisional Ceremonies at CCNY for Spring 2025 Graduates
La causa
It is with a profound sense of disappointment that we, the senior class at CCNY, voice our dismay. As graduating seniors, we learned that CCNY will not be offering divisional ceremonies for us this year unless the divisions themselves can fund them. Instead, a main commencement is all that's offered. This means that the critical moment where each of us would walk on the stage, hear our name called out, and receive the degree we worked so hard to earn is being discounted. To add insult to injury, our own university failed to communicate this to us clearly and in due time.
What's worse is the fact that this decision follows a series of let-downs for our class. We are the same students who had our high school graduation ceremonies stripped from us due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, our hard-earned moment of recognition and celebration is on the brink of being taken away a second time.
Graduation is a significant milestone in any student's life. Divisional ceremonies form a crucial part of this experience, allowing us to celebrate with the faculty, peers, and departments who have walked alongside us through our academic journey. The abrupt removal of these ceremonies without any discussion or transparent communication is not only disappointing—it is unacceptable.
We call on the CCNY administration, faculty, and staff to recognize this as a pressing issue and act upon it urgently. We demand a reinstatement of our divisional ceremonies for the Spring 2025 graduation. Help us highlight the importance of these ceremonies to our personal and academic lives. Stand with us today and sign the petition.
