Reinstate direct flights from Gothenburg (GOT) to Bucharest (OTP)

Reinstate direct flights from Gothenburg (GOT) to Bucharest (OTP)
The Issue
There is currently no direct flight between Gothenburg and Bucharest, despite the fact that a direct route operated before the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrated clear passenger demand. The route was suspended during the pandemic and has not been reinstated.
The absence of a direct connection creates a clear connectivity gap between Western Sweden and Romania.
The Gothenburg and Västra Götaland region hosts a large Romanian community, while Bucharest serves as Romania’s main international air hub. A direct flight supports efficient travel for family connections, professional mobility, business activity, and long-term cross-border engagement.
From the Romanian side, the route provides structured access to Western Sweden for professional, academic, institutional, and business travel, as well as tourism and short-term mobility. This connection supports bilateral movement between two economically active regions.
Currently, all travel between Gothenburg and Bucharest requires indirect routing via other European hubs, resulting in longer travel times, higher costs, and reduced efficiency.
Before COVID-19, the direct Gothenburg–Bucharest route proved viable and in demand. That underlying demand remains.
This petition calls for the restoration of a direct Gothenburg–Bucharest flight.
The signatures collected reflect passenger demand from travelers based in Västra Götaland and Romania and will be shared with airlines operating in the region, including Ryanair and Wizz Air, as evidence of market interest.
