Why this petition matters

Started by Rachel Braniff

Hull City Council have withdrawn funding for a Dementia Support Worker in Hull and the surrounding areas.

This will leave the area without any support from the Alzheimer's Society for people diagnosed with dementia or people living with the disease. Many families have benefited from the service and it will leave us all lost, unable to easily access support and groups. People with dementia thrive if they are involved in activities, they come alive when they visit the groups, joining in with activities such as games and singing. Their family members also benefit greatly from the support and guidance the support worker at these groups provides. There is a huge need for this support, without it, current members and also newly diagnosed and their families will struggle. This was evident during the pandemic when groups were stopped, the effect on dementia sufferers and their families was horrific, many of the members saw a dramatic deterioration in their condition.
