Reinstate Daily Physical Education in Schools

The Issue

As a Paraprofessional in the Cambridge Primary School, I observe the struggles of our students daily due to an absence of regular physical activity. The current system, which allows for physical education (PE) merely once every four days, doesn't meet the needs of our children. Their pent-up energy leads to an unsettled classroom environment and affects their ability to focus, learn, and engage cooperatively.

Our concern is not just for our schools; this situation impacts children all over. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children and adolescents between 6-17 years should have at least one hour of physical exercise every day. Unfortunately, our current education program fails to meet this basic requirement. This change can significantly improve the classroom environment, beneficial to both staff and children. By having a daily outlet for their energy, students will potentially be calmer, more focused, and ready to learn.

We call upon our local education authority to reinstate daily PE classes in schools and adequately address the physical health needs of our children. It is imperative to act now, for the sake of our children's education and overall well-being. Please sign this petition and support the change for our schools.
