Our college softball coach, Sierra Smith, was  removed from her position by our athletic director, AD Dubose, leaving us without her guidance and care. This is not just a professional setback for her; it is a personal loss for us as players at Elizabeth City State University. For many of us, she was more than a coach—she was a mentor and a source of inspiration. Her sudden dismissal, seemingly without valid reason, has left us heartbroken and scared for the future of our team.

Our coach's dedication to our team was unwavering. She worked tirelessly to ensure we excelled not only on the field but also in our personal and academic lives. Her support, encouragement, and leadership has significantly impacted us. The decision to terminate her disregards these attributes and the profound positive effect she has had on the team's morale and performance.

At Elizabeth City State University, where community and culture is a cherished tradition, firing a coach who embodied all of these values and unconditionally advocated for her players is a significant misstep. There is no clear justification provided for her dismissal, leading us to believe that the decision was abrupt and without proper cause. It is essential for the well-being and future of our team that this erroneous decision is reconsidered.

Reinstating our coach not only would rectify this situation but would also restore faith among the team and supporters in fair and transparent athletic department processes. We urge those in authority to review the circumstances surrounding her termination thoroughly and act to reinstate a coach whose impact has been undeniably positive and transformative.
