The Issue

My name is Evelyn Jovanna Torres, and I am currently enrolled in an education program aimed at fulfilling my dream of becoming a teacher. This goal is not only personal but shared by many like-minded individuals in Brownsville, TX, who are equally passionate about pursuing a career in education. Unfortunately, we have recently learned that the education program we rely on is facing discontinuation. This decision stems from the challenge of finding a certified teacher to lead us in our training sessions, especially after our beloved instructor retired, believing the program would remain intact.

This unexpected turn of events threatens to dash our dreams and aspirations. The continuation of this program is vital for us because it equips us with the necessary skills and experience to effectively teach the next generation. In Brownsville, a community with a rich cultural tapestry and potential for growth, having dedicated teachers is crucial for nurturing young minds and contributing positively to society.

We understand that logistical challenges exist. However, we propose solutions that could make a significant difference. First, actively seeking retired educators who could mentor and lead the training could bridge the gap while providing seasoned insights. Alternatively, partnerships with local universities and colleges could provide student-teachers with the opportunity to serve as interim coaches under proper supervision.

The statistics are clear: Communities with robust education programs see better student outcomes, lower dropout rates, and higher college admission rates. Brownsville has the potential to be among these communities, provided we maintain and enhance our educational infrastructure.

We appeal to the decision-makers and school authorities to consider the long-term benefits of reinstating the education program. Our dreams, and the future of many aspiring educators, depend on it. Please stand with us in advocating for the reinstatement of this pivotal program by signing this petition. Your signature can help transform our dreams of becoming the next generation of educators into reality. Together, let's ensure that Brownsville continues to foster a nurturing environment for future teachers and students alike. Sign now and support our cause!
