The Issue

Personal experiences can testify to real life-changing impact. As a former at-risk teen, I attended the Youth ChalleNGe and graduated, making a profound difference in my life. I earned my GED and joined the national guard thanks to this program. That is why I advocate for the re-implementation of Arkansas Youth ChalleNGe at Fort Chaffee, with a cadre purely comprised of military members from the National Guard and a selected few civilian or previous military staff.

The Arkansas Youth ChalleNGe, designed to provide lost teens with a second chance, has proven its efficacy through resonating success stories like mine. The program’s essence is built on teaching at risk teens discipline, leadership, and responsibility, all in a military-style environment. It also enables them to pursue their high school diploma or earn high school credits. A fundamental aspect of this approach is that all cadets must enroll out of pure will - a testament to the program's appeal and effectiveness.

Restoring this program has the potential to rescue many teens on the brink. The importance of such initiatives is highlighted by the fact that Arkansas has a 5.8% dropout rate and 11.54% didn't graduate when intended (NCES, 2022). The Youth ChalleNGe, despite only being a 22-week venture, can make a lifetime's worth of difference for these troubled teenagers. Statistics indicate high school dropouts are more likely to be unemployed and be involved in crime and incarceration.

Together, we can give Youth ChalleNGe the opportunity to reshape more lives, the way it did mine. Allow these teenagers a chance to change, grow, and contribute positively to society. So please, sign this petition urging the authorities to reinstate the Arkansas Youth ChalleNGe program at Fort Chaffee
