Reinstate and fully staff our school library programs

Reinstate and fully staff our school library programs
The Issue
In today’s rapidly evolving world, where information is power, it is crucial to ensure that our children have equitable access to resources that can support their literacy and educational journey. As a concerned library media specialist and educator, I am deeply invested in ensuring every scholar has the tools they need not only to succeed within the school environment but also to thrive in life. Our school libraries play an essential role in this mission; they're not just a place to store books, but a sanctuary of knowledge and opportunity.
Recently, our school library programs have faced staffing cuts, reducing the accessibility and effectiveness of these invaluable resources. Not only does this hinder the learning process, but it also places an unequal burden on students who rely heavily on library resources for their education. Statistics show that children who have regular access to well-equipped school libraries tend to perform better in all areas of schooling including reading and comprehension, critical thinking, and overall academic achievement.
Our goal is to reinstate and fully staff our school libraries to ensure every child has the same opportunity to harness knowledge, leave no room for educational disparities, and foster a love for literacy. This means the rehiring of qualified librarians, library support staff C5 position, and ensuring adequate funding to keep our school libraries open and functional throughout the entire school year. Librarians are not just caretakers of books; they are educators who guide students in research, digital literacy, and lifelong learning.
We encourage everyone to share their testimonials on how a fully operational school library has impacted their or their children's education positively. Personal stories can greatly influence decision-makers by putting a human face to the statistics. Together, we can paint a compelling picture of why our school library programs are not a luxury but a necessity.
We invite you to join our next school board meeting, Tuesday, April 28th at 6:30pm at Garrett Morgan, where we will present our case for the reinstitution and full staffing of our school libraries. Your presence, support, and voice can make a difference. Let us unite and show our commitment to education and literacy for all.
Please sign this petition to urge our school district to prioritize our children’s future by reinstating and fully staffing our school libraries. Your signature is a step towards making equitable education a reality. Thank you for your support.
