Reinstall the Stop Signs at the Forked Creek Cove Intersection in Hernando, Mississippi
Reinstall the Stop Signs at the Forked Creek Cove Intersection in Hernando, Mississippi
The Issue
Our neighborhood is asking the City of Hernando to reconsider its decision to remove the stop signs at the three-way intersection in the Forked Creek neighborhood.
For many years, these stop signs helped slow traffic in an area where families live and children play. The intersection also serves as a bus stop location for three schools and is used daily by pedestrians, elderly residents, families walking pets, and children riding bicycles.
Residents have repeatedly reported speeding concerns to the City over the years, and law enforcement has conducted traffic enforcement in the neighborhood. While no traffic control measure is perfect, many residents believe the stop signs encouraged slower driving and improved safety.
When the City announced the signs would be removed, numerous residents expressed concerns. Despite that feedback, the stop signs were removed on July 7, 2026.
We respectfully ask the City of Hernando to:
Reinstall the stop signs while the intersection is further evaluated; or
Conduct and publicly share a comprehensive traffic engineering and safety study that considers vehicle speeds, pedestrian activity, school bus stops, and neighborhood safety before making the removal permanent.
This petition is about protecting our families and ensuring that public safety remains the highest priority.
