Petition in Support of Luz Mira at Miami Dade County Animal Shelter

We, the undersigned, stand in full support of Luz Mira, an exemplary employee at the Miami-Dade County Animal Shelter. Since joining the shelter in November 2022, Luz has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the well-being of the animals in her care, going above and beyond her duties to ensure that every dog receives the care, attention, and enrichment they deserve.

The Issue:

Despite her dedication and hard work, Luz has recently faced accusations from the administration regarding not walking dogs. We, who have witnessed Luz's tireless efforts and unwavering commitment, find these accusations to be unfounded and not reflective of her true character and work ethic.

Luz's Contributions:

Daily Enrichment and Care: Luz provides daily enrichment walks, and exercises, and engages with dogs, including those in aggressive quarantine and URI units, ensuring they receive physical and mental stimulation.

Fundraising for Animal Welfare: Luz has initiated and organized fundraisers to secure essential items like blankets and toys for the dogs, enhancing their comfort and well-being during their stay at the shelter.

Specialized Care and Handling: Luz is highly skilled in handling behavior-concerned dogs, managing animals in aggressive quarantine, and working in the Upper Respiratory Infectious (URI) unit. Her expertise ensures that even the most challenging animals receive the care and attention they need.

Behavioral Observations and Assessments: Luz regularly observes and documents animal behavior, adjusting enrichment activities to meet the specific needs of each dog. Her detailed records and assessments contribute to the overall health and potential adoption of these animals.

Collaborative and Educational Efforts: Luz works closely with veterinary staff and other departments to integrate enrichment into daily care routines. She also trains staff and volunteers on proper enrichment techniques, ensuring that all animals benefit from her knowledge and experience.

Our Request:

We urge the administration of Miami Dade County Animal Services to acknowledge Luz's outstanding contributions and to dismiss any unfounded accusations against her. We believe that Luz is an invaluable asset to the shelter, and her continued dedication is essential to the well-being of the animals in her care.

By signing this petition, we express our full support for Luz Mira and request that the administration recognize and appreciate her commitment to animal welfare.   We further request that Animal Services acknowledge the incomparable commitment to our shelter pets, and services provided by Luz.
