Rehabilitation of Stray Dogs by MCD

Rehabilitation of Stray Dogs by MCD
The Issue
According to recent data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, incidents of dog bites in India have witnessed a significant 26.5% year-on-year increase. The numbers surged from 2.18 million incidents in 2022 to 2.75 million incidents in 2023.
Stray dogs population has risen beyond manageable limits within RWAs, while the residents remain kind towards these indies but there are multiple cases where the strays have bitten residents/guest/workers or done collosal damage to houses, gardens or vehicles. Small children at times are also not safe in parks & gardens!
MCD is supposed to rehabilitate these strays and take care of them in the shelters where a separate budget is yearly allocated but the MCD does nothing about it. Leaving these poor animals and humans both in trouble. On one side these homeless animals are battered by homelessness and hunger, while on the other hand the residents are at risk of bites and attacks. This is leading to humans being more protective and the animals are beaten or even killed in the fray!
This petition is to give a wake up call to MCD to own up the responsibility,& do the following:
- Use funds at the right place to revive their shelter - on ground and not in documents (PetSouk shall take ownership in providing right solutions and leg work)
- Help them raise funds & support through various impacted RWAs
- Take these strays into the shelters for better care
- Provide a homogenous environment for both where humans & dogs don’t have to fight a territory battle!
