Did you know (In Canada)
- All you need to open a dog daycare is a Business license. (Some places require a Kennel license)
- Employees of Dog daycare are usually just pet owners and not trained professionals of any sort.
- Dogs that come home exhausted from daycare is not always a good thing.
- Some dogs in daycare dont enjoy being there
- Dogs at daycare dont get the real deep rest they need throughout the day.
- Daycares dont set nap times or breaks from play/socialisation.
- There is no limit to the number of dogs a daycare can take
- Some daycares mix all dogs no matter the condition, age, size, behavior, neutered state or breed
- Daycares/staff are not held responsible in the event of serious incidents
- You do not need certification to work/operate a dog daycare
- Dog to dog and dog to human incidents happen more than you think at daycares
- Overcrowding at dog daycares is common
- Dog daycares use water to spray dogs that are "misbehaving"
- Dogs have no "structure" at daycares, they are over corrected on all "bad behaviors" (barking, jumping up, marking, posturing etc)
- Staff are paid minimum wage
- Staff are not trained in pet first aid
- Dog daycares are not required to have extra insurance to cover staff/dog incidents
- Animal abuse or neglect by a staff member at dog daycares only leads to dismissal and said staff can apply at another daycare.
- There are no minimum requirements a daycare must follow
(Ex. Fencing, safe and fair staff:dog ratio, training, facility maintenance, capacity limits)
- Incidents are not recorded or reported. Ever.
- Most daycares are not transparent with customers
- Dogs that board (overnight stay) at these facilities are in a kennel unsupervised at closing until opening (often 8 hours)
- Dogs are not assessed upon arrival at daycare
- Dog daycares are not assessed by Health and safety and tend not to be up to code unless reported and directed to do so.
- Staff at dog daycares are not paid danger pay while working overnights or with dogs with behavioral issues.
- Did you know you sign a contract stating to not hold the daycare accountable in place of an incident and that the daycare isn't responsible for any vet bills if the incident involves your dog?
DID YOU KNOW ALL THIS COULD CHANGE WITH REGULATIONS? With a little government assistance, we can make the Dog Daycare Industry what it should be.
A place for young dogs to learn, socialize, play and be well taken care of while you're busy!
