I feel for all the animals on the island who aren't being treated because of the continued price increases from our vets. Imagine our beloved pets suffering because necessary treatments are too costly. This heart-wrenching reality is what many pet owners on the Isle of Man, face daily. Our pets are part of our families, and it's devastating to see them suffer due to the astronomical, unmonitored vet prices.
A glaring example is a yearly injection for our bunny, for which we were quoted over £100, while the actual cost to the vet was around £20. This exorbitant fee isn't just an isolated case. Many pets remain untreated, unvaccinated, and unspayed because of the steep veterinary fees, which put their health at risk.
Without intervention, the health and wellbeing of countless animals will continue to suffer. Current pricing structures lack regulation, leaving pet owners at the mercy of ever-increasing costs. This scenario does not only endanger pets but also strains the financial wellbeing of numerous families who are striving to provide basic healthcare for their animals.
We call upon our local politicians and veterinary professionals to address this pressing issue. Implementing a cap on vet fees is imperative.
