The Beginnings of AI Machine Learning and Bias
AI in talent software took off in 2020 and has steadily been on an upward trajectory with 83% of companies using it.
Here’s what I noticed since I started looking 657 days ago. I added the open to work banner and use the hashtag in my posts. Instantaneously, my inbox would be overloaded with so called recruiters linked to talent agencies I’ve never heard of. All of their posts used the same wording. They would ask what motivated me; salary vs company culture and what my career goals were. Then they’d request my CV claiming to be trying to align me with roles.
Not 10 minutes later, they would respond that they’d run my CV through ATS software for compatibility, list a few changes and ask for money to see the full report.
Then, all of the profiles would vanish. Profile not found. The contents of the message gone as well.
This happened throughout my entire 657 days of searching. The other type claimed their position was a CV or Resume review service. Charging to review your CV based on ATS scans. Ignored those.
I believe THIS is how LinkedIn helped Talent Software Companies use Machine learning to program biased algorithms in talent software.
I never gave my consent to have my CV scanned in any software and these bot profile misrepresented themselves as recruiters to gather information for model training.
We need to start demanding regulations in AI usage in talent software and then hold those companies accountable for the destruction caused.
