Hello everyone! My name is Lindsay Domingues. Something has changed our society for both the better and the worse- A.I or artificial intelligence. I've created this petition to inform you on the societal effects A.I. brings on our society, and how we can regulate it for the better. 

A.I. affects people by decreasing mental health through misinformation being spread through A.I. generated videos, and increasing social isolation within individuals- including children and adolescents as they are also exposed to electronics in this generation. 

Additionally, A.I. worsens the health of our environment through increased carbon emissions caused by A.I. training sessions for the maintenance of certain artificial intelligence centered apps, which further increases climate change, affecting people and our ecosystems. 

Traditional learning models are also weakened by A.I. as students begin to become dependent on A.I. apps, and teachers begin to lose authority and jobs when students no longer require their assistance for assignments. 

So, what's in the way of decreasing the negative effects of A.I? Firstly, President Donald Trump mandated the American A.I. Initiative which funds and supports A.I. in various business models. This mandate makes it difficult to avoid A.I. when it's a large component of corporations. Secondly, A.I. is used in research based and evolving industries, such as the medical field where A.I. is used to improve patient care and ensure efficiency of services. Thirdly, A.I. is easy to access through social media platforms and apps. These three factors are what make it difficult to get rid of A.I. However, they are good reasons of how A.I. helps our society, and also why we shouldn't entirely diminish A.I.

As I mainly focused on the negative effects of A.I., I believe certain regulations can be done to minimize the negative effects from the implementation of A.I. software. The government should implement mandatory classes in educational institutions and local facilities that teach parents, children, adolescents, and college students about the dangers of A.I, and methods to limit A.I. 

In addition to this solution, the government should also mandate that all A.I. applications which are accessible to the general public limit the use of apps to two hours, with the exceptions of businesses and student accounts which won’t have a time limit, but will have filters in the chat to prevent the user from going off track on their assignment.  By filters, I mean that the A.I. applications should use its technology to reply to the user of the application and remind them to get back on track if they are using a student or business account. 

Together, we can implement these solutions by creating petitions, spreading awareness of the effects A.I. brings upon society, and also signing my petition to the U.S. government in hopes for my proposed solution to bring progress on this issue. A.I. has its positive upbringings on society, so I hope we can regulate it more rather than allowing it to harm our society through its negative effects.
