Every name matters more than it did a month ago. Here's why, In just the last six weeks, every level of Canadian government has stepped into this conversation:

March 19, 2026 — Statistics Canada published a new longitudinal study showing Canadian youth who exceeded screen-time guidelines from 2019 to 2023 were significantly more likely to report poor mental health. Just 38% reported excellent or very good mental health, compared to 58% of youth who stayed within guidelines. (Statistics Canada, "Does Screen Time Make a Difference?", March 19, 2026)

March 30, 2026 — A new Angus Reid Institute survey found 75% of Canadians support a full ban on social media for under-16s. (Angus Reid Institute, March 30, 2026)

April 11, 2026 — The federal Liberals voted at their national convention to support a minimum age of 16 for social media accounts. (CBC News, April 11, 2026)

April 15, 2026 — Federal Heritage Minister Marc Miller confirmed the government is "very seriously" considering age restrictions on social media and AI chatbots. (CBC News, April 15, 2026)

April 26, 2026 — Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced Manitoba will become the first province in Canada to move on a youth social media ban. (Global News, April 26, 2026)

April 28, 2026 — Ontario announced it's looking at a similar ban, with the education minister saying education ministers across the country agree that classroom phone access hasn't been beneficial. (CBC News, April 28, 2026)

Every level of government is in. And almost every single proposal is the same one: ban the kids.

But banning kids doesn't fix the algorithm. The infinite scroll, the dopamine traps, the engagement design — none of it changes. We're just deciding who it targets next.

That's why KidsNotClicks is asking for something different: regulate the platforms, not just the doorway.

204 signatures from 1,000. When we hit it, this goes to federal ministers, while they're listening.

Here's what I'm asking today: please share this petition with someone who cares about kids. A parent. A grandparent. A teacher or an educator. A coach, a pediatrician, an aunt, an uncle, a friend who's raising a young person and worrying about their phone. Anyone who's ever watched a child get lost in a screen and wondered who's actually looking out for them.

This isn't a parents-only fight. It's a we fight. And the more of us who sign, the harder it gets for Ottawa to settle for an age limit and call it a day.
