Regulate home development in our growing community

The Issue

According to U.S. Census estimates, the population in our community has grown from approximately 22,000 residents in 2000 to over 37,000 today, marking a significant increase of more than 65% in just over two decades. In line with this growth, the city has added thousands of new housing units to accommodate the rising number of residents. While this expansion presents opportunities for economic and social growth, it also exerts pressure on existing infrastructure, which has struggled to keep pace with the rapid development.

Many of us have already experienced the tangible effects of this unchecked growth. Essential services such as roads, public transportation, schools, water supply, and waste management are straining under the weight of the increased population. Traffic congestion has become a daily reality, reducing the quality of life and increasing commute times. Local schools are overcrowded, affecting the quality of education our children receive. The water supply and sewage systems, designed for a smaller population, are increasingly becoming insufficient.

Without proper regulation, continued development will exacerbate these issues, leading to deteriorating living conditions and potentially harming our community's unique character. We believe that sustainable growth, which aligns with the capacity of our infrastructure and preserves our community's environment and charm, is achievable.

We urge our local government to take action by implementing stricter regulations on home development projects. These regulations should ensure that all new developments are subject to a thorough impact analysis on infrastructure and environmental sustainability. Additionally, there should be a focus on expanding and improving existing infrastructure to meet current needs and support future growth responsibly.

By supporting this petition, you are calling for thoughtful and sustainable growth strategies that prioritize the well-being of both current and future residents. Please sign this petition to help us take a step towards a more balanced and forward-thinking development plan for our community.
