As a rescuer of unwanted dachshunds, I have personally experienced the financial strain caused by exorbitant increases in pet insurance renewals. One of my dogs required surgery for Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a common condition among this breed. I was fortunate enough to have insurance at the time, with affordable monthly renewals of £3/4. However, over time, these renewal costs have skyrocketed without any claims being made. Recently, my renewal for one dog went from £42 per month to an astounding £93.

This is not just my story; it's the story of countless responsible pet owners who are being exploited by insurance companies that double their rates annually regardless of whether a claim has been made or not. This practice is making it unaffordable for people to cover their beloved pets' health needs and is leading to an increase in surrenders at rescue centers as vet costs also become unaffordable.

The government must step in and investigate this issue urgently. We need regulations that prevent insurance companies from imposing such excessive increases on annual renewals without justification.

We cannot allow our love for our pets and our commitment to their wellbeing be exploited any longer. It's time we demand fairness and transparency from pet insurance providers.
