Regulate Email Weekend Advertisements and Creditor Activities in Britain
Regulate Email Weekend Advertisements and Creditor Activities in Britain
The Issue
I write this petition from personal experience in dealing with the wellbeing of others. Having personal experience from dealing with the heightened distress of others over weekends due to ceaseless advertising and relentless creditor calls, I understand the exact emotional impact this can create. It is not just inconvenient but poses serious health and suicide risks.
Our life in Britain has made us accustomed to a flood of advertisements and creditor calls at any given point. However, the unbridled freedom these companies have to reach out at weekends is driving distress levels higher. Weekends are supposed to offer relief and relaxation from the demands of life, yet many Britons find themselves harassed by incessant creditor calls and overwhelmed by excessive advertising. I direct this point at email advertisements.
According to a 2019 survey by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), over half of adults (27.7 million people) have been contacted by a company they owe money to in the last 12 months. It’s even more telling that a third of those contacted felt anxiety or stress as a result of these communications, indicating a strong link between creditor activities and mental health issues.
Similarly, advertising in Britain is at saturation point, with the average adult reportedly exposed to over 5,000 adverts per day. The intensity of this bombardment over the weekend, when people are trying to unwind, built a surrounding of constant pressure, leading to adverse effects on our mental health.
This issue isn't just about convenience or courtesy. It's about protecting citizen health and safety. We urge lawmakers to put stricter regulations on email advertisements and creditor activity at weekends. This weekend 'pause' would offer a needed respite for millions in our community and can reduce stress and suicide risks associated with these activities.
Please sign this petition to regulate weekend advertising and creditor call schedules in Britain for mental health's sake.
