I am the sole breadwinner for my family of six, a responsibility that I bear with pride but also with immense stress. With my salary earned through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) program, I struggle to make ends meet. This struggle isn't unique to me; it reflects the plight of numerous MGNREGA staff members across the country. We work diligently, often more than permanent employees, yet our earnings don't provide the stability or security that a  government employee enjoys.

MGNREGA staff members are crucial to the successful implementation of this important government scheme, which seeks to enhance livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year. Despite our substantial contributions and the heavy workloads, we receive meager salaries that do not justify our hard work and commitment. Many of us are dependent on this job as our primary source of income, which sustains not just ourselves but also our families who rely on us.

It is time for the government to recognize the value and importance of MGNREGA workers by regularizing us as central government employees. Such a move would not only ensure fair compensation but also boost morale and enhance the efficiency of the workforce. According to recent labor data, numerous workers have been involved in MGNREGA projects with great dedication for years, yet they continue to be deprived of basic employment rights such as job security, pension, and health benefits, which are afforded to their counterparts in permanent positions.

Regularization as central government employees would mean financial stability, improved working conditions, and better quality of life for thousands of dedicated workers and their families. It would acknowledge our steadfast dedication and hard-earned skills, providing us with the dignity we deserve.
