Millwood Community Off-leash Dog Park

The Millwood sub-division in Middle Sackville has a warm, welcoming, and supportive community of residents that are active and out in our beautiful neighbourhood. One common thread that has connected us, is that we are all dog owners who like to enjoy our neighbourhood and also engage is healthy behaviours with our family on a daily basis. In fact, within the last 2.5 months, we have grown to be an active and connected community of 90+ dog owners within, and around, the Millwood area. We regularly meet on the weekday evenings to socialize our dogs, get fresh air, and connect on a personal level.

One of the biggest conversation points in our group is that we would love a space where we could go off leash with our dogs in the community without worrying about taking space away from other members of the community. While we have access to the field in the off-season, we don’t want to impact that space during the Spring – Fall season, as many young kids, teenagers, and adults use that for organized and recreational sports.

In conversations with our local council, they have been supportive of taking a petition to the board to show interest and need in putting a dog park in our community. We are conscious of the protective green spaces, as well as the active recreational and leisure areas that are already HRM owned, and so would like to move forward with the support of both local dog owners and community members without dogs. It is our hope that a dog park would contribute positively to the entire community.

Thank you!
