"We have been very disappointed with some of the behaviours that have been displayed by some of the people in attendance," says Regional Police Constable Ashley Dietrich, "We've responded to a number of reports of people damaging property, throwing bottles at officers and at people within the crowds."
"This is cause for concern."
Indeed it is. Our cops are tops. They deserve better.
The participants of the Ezra Street Party have stated in the past they have the strength in numbers to party so they taunt the police to try and stop the party.
In the same misguided rant, they add they have the democratic right to peaceful assembly.
Attacking a police officer is not peaceful assembly.
Damaging private property is not peaceful assembly.
Straining hospital, police, and firefighter resources for the sake of behaving in a unruly drunken way is not peaceful assembly.
This is also not democracy in action, it's mob rule. We as a community must not stand for this.
I will continue to push for this event to end in the months to come. You have my word.
Yours,
David Alan Gay.
P.S. I've updated the text of the petition to reflect the recent issues that came up during the 2019 Ezra Street Party, such as the police being assaulted.
