Let's Build a Library

The Issue

On August the 8th. a landmark building collapse on the corner of 3rd. and Race Street. The building itself was a long standing building of the East End neighborhood for over 60 plus years. As a child growing up in the East End area I remember being able to go play arcade games in this building and learning how to shoot pool there. I also remember the sense of proud I felt being able to buy clothing from Old man's pickles clothing store. Most of the members of the community were sad to see it gone but are now hoping that the area of the site can bring about positive changes to the community. One of those positive changes that the community hopes that the building brings, is a library.

The community feels that if a place of empowerment such as library were built on the site of the the collapse building, it can help empower the youths and adults of the mostly under served area.

This petition is asking that grant money be used to buy this area for the construction of a East End Library, a place where the community can be educated, empowered and enlighten. We are asking all of the representatives of this area to get behind this idea and out of the debris of this building to bring about a new birth and rejuvenation for the empowerment of the people of this area.
