UCSF has expanded into Dogpatch despite promises not to. A task force of invited citizens has been advocating for our neighborhood through a series of meetings and UCSF has agreed to make some restitution.

One of the most important items the task force is asking for is A NEW PARK IN DOGPATCH. With our population tripling in the next 2 years our green spaces are going to be flooded with new people and their pets. We are asking UC to pay special attention to this item and follow through with the task force’s request to purchase land in the size of at least 2 acres and create an open green space comparable to Esprit Park.

THE LONG STORY IF YOU WANT THE DETAILS:

UCSF has expanded into Dogpatch despite promises not to and to keep all development north of Mariposa. They are building a psychiatric hospital and student housing for 800 students in our small community and have continued to purchase land for further expansion. As a nonprofit hospital, they are not required to follow some of the basic regulations that a normal developer would need to resulting in over $100 million in tax breaks (yes, I said over one hundred million!).  A task force of invited citizens has been advocating for our neighborhood through a series of meetings and UCSF has agreed to make some restitution to mitigate their intrusion.

One of the most important items the task force is asking for is a new park in Dogpatch. With our population tripling in the next 2 years, our green spaces are going to be flooded with new people and their pets. We are asking UC to pay special attention to this item and follow through with the task force’s request to purchase land in the size of at least 2 acres to make an open green space comparable to Esprit Park. 

As part of this request we are also asking UCSF to help restore and improve Esprit Park and also that a maintenance fund be established to keep the new park and Esprit Park healthy and sustained in the coming years.
