Reframe the 2025 Australian Grand Prix from a Formal Race to a Practice Event

The Issue

I'm a passionate Formula 1 fan and participant in the F1 Fantasy League. The 2025 Australian Grand Prix was a heartbreak, not just for me but for many fans worldwide. My favourite racer, Oscar Piastri, was anticipated to clinch victory, but he didn't. Lando Norris took the win, with teams playing unexpected roles in shaping the final outcome. The damage from Ferrari was a shock, deeply affecting me and no doubt countless other fans.

This race saw numerous rookies skidding off the track before the finish line. According to official reports, more than half of the rookie drivers were unable to finish the race (FIA, 2025). This resulted in a whirlpool of negativity and stress among those affected, precipitating what some health professionals are now viewing as a global mental health crisis.

The essence of each Grand Prix is rooted in fair and responsible competition, a spirit which seemed to be missing at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix. Therefore, I humble request the Formula 1 administration and associated bodies to not recognize this event as a formal race but rather a practice race. In doing so, we provide a fair platform for rookies, acknowledging the unique challenges they faced due to a lack of experience.

Formula 1 is more than a sport; it's our passion. It's an adrenaline-filled event that brings joy and excitement to the world. Let's make sure it keeps doing just that. Sign this petition for shift in perception, acceptance, and a future of fair, exciting races.
