Reform Unfair Dress Code Policies in Our High School

Reform Unfair Dress Code Policies in Our High School
The Issue
I am a 17-year-old female student, more curvy than most girls my age, and recently, I experienced a situation that clearly demonstrated bias in our high school's current dress code policy. My best friend and I wore matching outfits, but I was singled out and faced disciplinary action while she did not, simply because I'm physically larger. This incident is not an isolated case, many students across the country face similar experiences daily, predominantly female students. In fact, a study from the National Women's Law Center in 2018 found that these dress code policies contribute to significant absenteeism among female students, often because they feel self-conscious and judged on their appearance rather than their actual academic abilities (NWLC, 2018). We're calling on the administration to reform these unfair dress code policies in our schools. Please sign the petition to ensure that all students are treated fairly and can focus on their education rather than their appearances.
