The Issue

As a dedicated University of Georgia Facilities Management Division (UGA FMD) employee, I, along with my colleagues, confront daily frustrations with the current state of our designated parking area—N01 parking lot and its connected lot. Our commitment to our roles is unwavering, yet our ability to efficiently access and utilize our designated parking is severely hindered.

Despite paying for parking within our own complex, we find the lot nearly inaccessible, particularly when populated. The lot’s insufficient size, compounded by poorly planned space allocation, leads to significant navigational challenges. Currently, backing into parking spots is not only a common practice due to lack of maneuverability but also a necessity for some due to the inadequately maintained conditions.

Moreover, the absence of visible parking lot lines further exacerbates the situation, leading to confusion and increased likelihood of accidental damage to vehicles. The neglected potholes that scatter across the lot not only jeopardize vehicle maintenance but also pose a safety risk to all who frequent the area.

Additionally, the current necessity for front license plates on vehicles parked in this lot demands costly and cumbersome modifications that could be feasibly eliminated. This requirement is not only an inconvenience to the lot’s users but also contributes to unnecessary financial burdens.

Our call to action focuses on several critical improvements:
1. Implement clear and adequately visible parking lines to enhance organization and safety.
2. Address and repair the prevalent potholes to maintain vehicle safety and infrastructure integrity.
3. Eliminate the mandatory need for front license plates in these parking areas, recognizing the genuine hardships they impose on our vehicle owners.

This petition serves as a collective plea from UGA FMD employees seeking a sensible and immediate revision to our current parking arrangements. Improved accessibility and safety measures will allow us to fulfill our professional obligations with less hassle and greater security.

We urge UGA administration and relevant campus facilities officials to recognize these challenges and take action. Sign this petition to support a more efficient and safer parking environment for all UGA FMD staff.
