As a resident of Cyprus, I witness countless drivers having to resort to emergency braking to avoid running red lights or facing penalties due to the extremely short duration of the yellow light. The current yellow light lasts for approximately one second, while the average reaction time of a typical driver is about 0.9 seconds. This leaves almost no room for error and puts many road users at risk.

I propose two key changes that could significantly enhance road safety without negatively impacting city traffic flow:

1. Increase the duration of the yellow light.
2. Implement a blinking green signal as an indication that it will soon turn yellow.

These modifications would provide drivers with additional time to make safe decisions on whether they should stop or proceed through intersections, thereby reducing instances of abrupt braking and potential accidents.

Road safety is paramount, and simple changes like these can make significant improvements in our daily commutes. It's high time we prioritized safety over speed on our roads in Cyprus.
