Reform the UK Family Court System to Better Address Parental Alienation

Reform the UK Family Court System to Better Address Parental Alienation
The Issue
My family and I, and many others, have experienced the harrowing impacts of parental alienation. It's a scenario that unfolds all too often; false accusations of domestic abuse are made, and without sufficient evidence, the family courts, social services, and Cafcass sway in favour of the alienating parent. Unfortunately I have had to witness this for myself, it's heart-breaking watching your partner being alienated from their own child. Alienation doesn't just affect the parent either, it affects the extended family too along with the child/children who are being alienated.
Parental alienation not only fragments families but can lead to long-term emotional and psychological trauma for the children involved. According to a study published in the Journal of Family Therapy and Review, children are likely to suffer low self-esteem, depression, and relationship difficulties as a result of parental alienation (Bernet et al., 2010).
Yet, our UK family court system continues to inadequately address this issue. The current system does not focus enough on the best interests of the child and does not effectively discourage false allegations. This calls for a dire need to reform our family court regulations, evaluation methods, and investigative procedures.
We are therefore urging the UK Parliament to take immediate and decisive action to reform the family court system. We need a system that truly ensures the welfare of the children, upholds justice for all parties involved, and actively addresses the issue of parental alienation. Together, we can prevent more families from experiencing this nightmare.
