Children are being persecuted for wearing clothes that they feel comfortable in. This dress code tells girls that they cannot wear tank tops in 90 degree weather. That they cannot wear shorts. They are prohibited from wearing “short” skirts. The school board expects students to wear floor length skirts and long sleeved shirts.

Developing girls are constantly subjected to sexualization by a dress code that shames them for their bodies. Telling a child that her shirt is “too revealing,” and “distracting” only makes her feel uncomfortable in her own skin and like she should have to feel ashamed of herself. 

This unfair and unjust dress code has been enforced for years, making countless women feel shame, guilt, and embarrassment for something they can’t control. They are trying to punish children for being themselves. A girl should be able to learn without fear of being “distracting,” or “inappropriate,” because of her body and gender.
