My mother is a dedicated teacher in LWSD who faces immense challenges in trying to maintain the students' grades. Despite her relentless efforts, majority of her students' grades average a C+. Having consulted her and other experienced educators, we've all come to the conclusion that one of the main issues is the lack of a Math 8 course, thus causing a severe learning gap. Math is a crucial subject which lays a foundation for many essential skills that shape our future, like problem-solving, analyzing, and logical thinking. As per the National Assessment of Educational Progress, students with a firm grasp in Math are more likely to graduate high school (89%) compared to those without (59%). This highlights the importance and impact a complete Math pathway can have on a student's academic journey. We, therefore, call upon the LWSD to restore the Math 8 course to help ensure a reliable and solid Math pathway for every student. We believe this reform is a critical step toward improving the performance and overall learning experience of students in the district.
