Reform the Fishing Laws in Aliso Canyons to Allow Public Fishing
The Issue
I, along with my friends, have long been passionate about fishing in the lush environment of Aliso Canyons. However, our attempts have been stifled by stringent criminalizing regulations time and again. Our love for fishing is treated as an infringement by park rangers. Every leisurely trip ends up being an argument over legality, while we just want to enjoy the serenity the canyons offer. I wholeheartedly believe this needs to change.
Aliso Canyons, home to various species of fish, is an untapped territory for hobbyists and fishing enthusiasts due to the current prohibitory laws. This is not to disregard the sincere concerns about endangering wildlife, but there's always a middle ground. Making the park bigger and relocating any extremely endangered species that could be inconvenienced by the public could be viable solutions.
Fishing is known to have therapeutic effects and people's right to engage in such activities should not be compromised as long as it does not harm the environmental balance. In fact, according to a 2019 study published in the Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism, it was established that regulated fishing could potentially have the "least disruptive effect" on wildlife, compared to other recreational activities.
To bring balance and harmony between wildlife safety and public recreational freedom, it's high time the authorities reassessed present regulations. I request your support so that every fishing enthusiast may be able to savor the beauty of Aliso Canyons without infringing on wildlife or being reprimanded. Let us urge the local governing body to review and reform the fishing laws in Aliso Canyons. Sign this petition today and support us in our endeavor.
