I, along with many others in our school, have witnessed firsthand how the current dress code at Lyons Creek Middle School has unfairly impacted students. Numerous individuals are being penalized for their attire, a situation that disrupts their learning environment and creates unnecessary stress and loss of money.

The dress code policy as it stands is not only outdated and EXREMELY SEXIST but also subjective in its interpretation and enforcement. This leads to inconsistent application of rules and fosters an environment where students feel targeted rather than supported with their dress attire. 

Research suggests that strict dress codes can negatively affect student self-esteem and body image (American Psychological Association). Moreover, these policies can distract from the primary purpose of schools - education. Instead of focusing on what they are wearing, students should be encouraged to focus on their studies.

We believe that a more flexible dress code could promote individuality while still maintaining a respectful learning environment. It's time for Lyons Creek Middle School to revisit its policies and consider a more inclusive approach.
