Reform the Australian Medical Council Exam Payment System

The issue

I, along with many other international medical graduates, have recently been gravely affected by an abrupt change in the Australian Medical Council (AMC) exam payment system. On 18th November AMС made the payment system credit card exclusive to secure the AMC clinical spot, failing to communicate this important change to us effectively in an email sent on 6th November. Facing this sudden change, I, like many others who do not hold a credit card, was left on edge. I was unable to secure the exam placement and had to resort to asking my consultant to lend me their credit card. The process delayed my return to my patients for over four hours, during which I was relegated to a tense state of anxiety, constantly refreshing the page in hopes of some resolution. This level of emotional strain is simply unacceptable.

However, this isn't just about my personal experience. The ill-communicated change has caused an unforeseen pandemonium among international medical graduates, with many candidates unable to secure their placement given this unforeseen circumstance. Such changes, lacking in both foresight and consideration, can dismantle the progress and career trajectory of aspiring medical professionals.

Understanding the gravity of this issue, we call on the AMC to reform their payment system. Our request includes both accepting multiple forms of payment and ensuring clear communication about such significant changes, giving ample time for the candidates to prepare and adapt. No aspiring medical professional should face this level of anxiety and panic due to logistical oversights. Stand with us in this struggle for fair treatment and equal opportunity. Sign this petition to urge AMC to reform their payment system and open additional spots!

No one should be forced to purchase a Credit Card for this reason. AMC should open additional booking slots and provide more dates between March and May to accommodate candidates who missed out on this opportunity due to inadequate communication.
