Dear Fellow Changemaker,

I want to take this heartfelt moment to thank you for your incredible commitment to what has become a truly historic civic movement. Because of your support, we have officially closed the Petition for signatures and finalised our submission under the banner of South Africans for Constitutional Reform (SACR) – a temporary civic movement I founded alongside Refilwe Matenche, created specifically for this purpose.

Thanks to your collective action, our Petition gathered 30,138 verified signatures. This achievement belongs to all of us. Every single one of you who signed, shared and spread the word played a vital role in pushing this campaign forward. This would not have been possible without your belief in a better, more just South Africa.

A special thank you also goes out to the passionate influencers and content creators who stood with us. Your tireless efforts to answer every comment, dispel doubts and amplify this cause across your platforms was an act of service to your country. We see you and we thank you.

Tonight, on 30 May 2025, we will officially submit our proposal to Parliament’s Constitution Review Committee. In this submission, we are also requesting the opportunity to present our case in person, as Parliament allows for oral presentations – a chance we are determined to seize.

What began as a bold idea has quickly grown into a nationwide call for change. Over the past few weeks, we received overwhelming support – from mainstream media, from South Africans in every province and most touchingly, from everyday citizens who shared thoughtful, passionate recommendations. Most notably, the Chairperson of the Constitutional Review Committee confirmed that this cycle has seen a record number of public submissions. That is your voice, loud and clear.

These past three weeks have been eye-opening. We have learned a great deal – but above all, we were reminded just how deeply the people of this country are suffering. And that is exactly why we started this campaign: to call for urgent constitutional reform – reform that puts people before politics, communities before corruption, and accountability before impunity.

We envision a Constitution that’s not just aspirational but actionable. A living document that ensures those in power serve the people and not the other way around.

In crafting our submission, I was privileged to work with a team of passionate, brilliant individuals. Together, we built working groups and spent countless hours analysing submissions and legal frameworks to ensure our proposal is strong, representative and aligned with constitutional parameters. Legal experts guided us and while we couldn’t include every input, especially those that fall outside constitutional scope – we stayed true to the original proposal endorsed by thousands of you.

Allow me to extend my deepest gratitude to the SACR Team, who worked relentlessly behind the scenes to make this possible:

  1. Refilwe Matenche
  2. Sibusiso “Skhura” Gule
  3. Siyanda Sinobolo
  4. Adv. Vhugala Netshiongolwe
  5. Siyanda Sibiya
  6. Masonwabe Dangazela
  7. Sdumo Hlope
  8. Lerato Kotiah
  9. Molatelo Racheku
  10. Matshepa Morule

These dedicated individuals are proof that South Africa is not only rich in minerals but also in patriots. People who give selflessly of their time and expertise to help steer this nation in the right direction.

Lastly, we have heard your calls. Many South Africans only recently became aware of this important initiative. As such, we will request that Parliament extend the deadline for public submissions to 30 June 2025, to give more citizens a chance to have their say in shaping the Constitution that governs their lives.

We promise to keep you updated on every step that follows.

Thank you once again for rising to this moment. Your courage, awareness and hope are what will carry this movement forward. Let us continue to stand together, informed, empowered and committed – because we are the change we've been waiting for.

Warm regards,

Princess “Princy” Mthombeni
Chairperson, South Africans for Constitutional Reform (SACR)
