Reform Social Security to Ensure Fair Treatment for SSI/SSD Recipients

Reform Social Security to Ensure Fair Treatment for SSI/SSD Recipients
The Issue
When I started receiving SSI, I found myself struggling to survive on a monthly maximum of less than $680. Living alone with just my grandfather and minimal family support, I find it nearly impossible to cover even basic necessities. Clothing, healthcare, and everyday expenses remain distant dreams due to the inadequate support provided by Social Security.
The current state of our Social Security system raises significant concerns. Many individuals who are part of the SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and SSD (Social Security Disability) programs face similar challenges, often treated poorly and inhumanely by SSI administration buildings. The monthly financial assistance they receive falls far short of covering basic living expenses, leaving them in a constant state of financial distress.
Moreover, it is troubling to note that some SSI doctors appear to be financially incentivized to deny claims of disability. This unethical practice often forces individuals into prolonged legal battles just to receive the aid they rightly deserve.
Furthermore, the restrictions on earning additional income are overly harsh. Individuals on SSI who manage to find a small job are penalized if they earn more than $85 a month, making it impossible to supplement their limited income without jeopardizing their benefits. This system traps recipients in a cycle of poverty and financial insecurity.
The goal of this petition is to urge policymakers to address these critical issues. We demand an overhaul of the Social Security system to:
1. Increase monthly payments for SSI and SSD recipients to a livable amount that matches inflation and current living costs.
2. Hold SSI personnel and medical evaluators accountable, ensuring that decisions are made justly and without financial motivation.
3. Remove the restrictive income caps that punish those trying to improve their situation through employment.
These changes are necessary to provide a fair and humane approach to supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Sign this petition to demand justice and dignity for all SSI and SSD recipients.
