Reform Policies for Animal Welfare and Rescue Operations

Reform Policies for Animal Welfare and Rescue Operations

The Issue

On June 11, 2024, the actions of the Chief Veterinary Office dealt a devastating blow to our charity horse rescue operation. All animals, healthy and otherwise, were forcibly removed from our property in a move we firmly believe was unwarranted. As a conscientious group driven by a deep bond with these creatures, we have time and time again proven our ability to provide for these animals, nurturing many back to health while keeping their welfare in utmost consideration.

Yet, our invaluable efforts were blatantly disregarded as our charges were traumatized once more by this sudden expulsion, an ordeal we believed they would never face again post-rescue. This act is not only a brutal affront to our work but also exposes the gaps in the current policies concerning animal welfare, specifically those relating to the active cooperation between government and animal rescue organizations.

We urge for an immediate review and necessary reform of these policies to ensure a measured and constructive approach to animal welfare, one that duly recognizes the tireless work of rescue centers. The collective voice of such organizations, backed by dedicated professionals, can help shape policies that not only protect animals in need, but also enable rescuers and welfare advocates to serve without fear of intrusive acts that undermine their mission.

Help us regain moral and physical custody of our animals, offer improved sanctuary for all animals in care, and foster a regulatory environment that champions, not chastises, rescue and welfare work. Sign the petition to call for a change that is long overdue. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these animals and for rescue initiatives as a whole.
