Please keep supporting, signing and sharing. This not only causes issues for us as parents, but for our children aswell.

Many single parents who strive to become financially independent and leave the benefits system often find themselves facing a contradiction: as they work harder and earn a higher salary, they are penalised by a reduction in benefits. This creates a situation where salary increases can result in a net loss of income, making it difficult to achieve true financial stability. For some, the increase in wages can lead to a reduction or complete loss of essential support like universal credit and housing allowance/council tax (benefit reduction), which can make it feel like their efforts are not rewarded, causing more stress, being unable to be ambitious or work towards any future goals/career prospects, feeling like they have failed. This “benefits trap” discourages people from progressing in their careers, as the marginal gains and increased salary can sometimes be less than the security provided by benefits. It highlights the need for policies that encourage and support people in their transition from benefits to work, rather than creating barriers that make it challenging to improve their circumstances and future prospects.
